Beijing’s Daxing airport receives its 10 millionth passenger.

Beijing’s Daxing International Airport welcomed its ten millionth passenger on Tuesday. The encouraging figure comes on the eve of its first anniversary, People Daily reports.

The airport, which began operating on September 25 last year, has experienced a quantitative recovery of its service thanks to China’s good situation with respect to COVID-19, said the airport authority.

During the last month, Daxing Airport occupied the first place nationally in terms of flight growth.

At its busiest point, the airport has handled more than 660 flights per day and a daily flow of passengers that reaches a maximum of 92,000 people.

Since its opening, 84,000 takeoffs and landings have been verified and 39,000 metric tons of cargo have been handled.

There are currently 187 domestic passenger flights connecting to 129 destinations operating from Daxing, as well as five cargo routes. Eighteen airlines are present at this international airport, including China Southern Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Air China, China United Airlines and Xiamen Air.

Located 46 kilometers south of the center of Beijing, it is estimated that by 2022 the airport will be able to mobilize 45 million passengers annually and 72 million by 2025.
