IATA confirms that its annual meeting will be held virtually in November.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that its 76th annual general meeting, to be held on November 24, will be held virtually with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines as a guest, reported EuropaPress.

All member airlines, as well as other invited industry and media partners, will be able to participate.

In addition, IATA has indicated that the World Air Transport Summit (WATS), which accompanies the association’s annual meeting, has been cancelled this year.

The annual meeting should have been held in June, but was postponed to November in the hope that the epidemiological situation would improve. In view of the outbreaks of coronavirus in several European countries and the reinstatement of travel restrictions, IATA considers it “impossible” to hold a face-to-face meeting.

However, in a statement, IATA’s CEO, Alexandre de Juniac, said that this is one of the “most important” general meetings as the industry is in “the deepest crisis in its history”. Therefore, he hopes that it will serve as a “call for resistance while solutions are found for the reopening of borders” and the construction of a “sustainable future from the destruction of the virus”.
