Speaking at the Virtual World Aviation Festival on September 25, Lufthansa Group CEO Carsten Spohr said his Boeing 747-8 aircraft will remain in service to be “our flagship after the crisis. He also indicated that he had accelerated the withdrawal of 14 747-400 aircraft by 2025.

“We love operating the 747-8, it’s the most efficient aircraft in the Lufthansa fleet,” Spohr said.
Spohr says the aircraft are “pretty much new” and cites the much higher belly load capacity of the A380s as a reason to keep the 747-8 in service.
Currently, Lufthansa counts as 19 747-8 aircraft.
