The U.S. Department of Transportation said Thursday it fined Emirates airlines $400,000 for operating flights in parts of Iran’s banned airspace in 2019, Reuters reported.

The flights carried the JetBlue Airways code and were therefore subject to U.S. regulations.
The FAA indicated that for 19 days in July 2019, Emirates operated flights over parts of Iranian airspace, despite a U.S. flight ban due to increased military activity and rising political tensions.
Emirates told the Department of Transportation that the issue was the result of an “inadvertent oversight,” but accepted this agreement in the interest of resolving the issue.
