American Airlines says flight attendants forced to deal with aggression for political reasons.

American Airlines says it will take further “precautionary” measures, including stopping serving alcohol on flights to and from Washington as a union reported several incidents during which flight attendants “were forced to confront passengers who showed political aggression towards other passengers and crew.

“We are working closely with local law enforcement and airport partners to ensure the safety of our customers and team members on the ground and in the air,” the airline’s statement said.

The company did not provide details about specific incidents, but the announcement came on the same day that thousands of rioters, supporters of President Donald Trump, stormed the U.S. Capitol as Congress began its joint session to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s victory, CNN reported.

In a message to union members, the president of the Flight Attendants Association said union leadership was aware of incidents on several flights to Washington.

“As security professionals, we are well trained to handle in-flight disruptions, but we should never have to deal with verbal or physical altercations motivated by in-flight politics,” the message said.
