A Viva Aerobus airline plane was the first commercial aircraft to land at Felipe Angeles Airport in Santa Lucia, announced Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday.

Later, Volaris and Aeromar flights arrived, all without passengers.

With a physical progress of 50% for the delivery of the work, a new military runway and other military facilities that had to be adapted within the Santa Lucia Military Air Base were inaugurated this Wednesday, where both Air Force and commercial airliners will land.

According to the Sedena report, the work that has been carried out in the last week includes the installation of baggage carousels, laying of quarry stone, application of paint, lamps in restrooms, as well as the installation of hydraulic, sanitary, electrical and air conditioning installations in the waiting rooms of the terminal building.

The cost of the work, including the ground connection to the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) and various military facilities, is set at 82,136.1 million pesos, and is expected to serve 19.5 million passengers during the first year of operations.

The inauguration of the Santa Lucia military air base, which is located in the southeast of the municipality of Zumpango, in the State of Mexico, is scheduled for March 21, 2022.
