Chilean health authorities announced on Thursday a new border closure and greater restrictions in the South American country as of April 5.
The announcement comes at a time when the country is facing an increase in the number of covid-19 infections and despite an efficient vaccination plan.

“The country’s borders are closed. Travel abroad is restricted for the entire month of April for both Chilean citizens and resident foreigners,” said the Undersecretary of the Interior, Katherine Martorell.
The official indicated that travel outside the country will be restricted and the entry of non-resident foreigners will be prohibited for 30 days.
In addition, an extension of the curfew which has been in force in the country since the arrival of the pandemic was announced, as well as a reduction in the circulation permits for activities considered essential.
Latam Airlines announced the suspension of most of its scheduled international flights to and from Chile as of April 5.
