Akasa Air, India’s new low-cost airline promoted by billionaire Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, showed images of its first aircraft on Monday.
On its Twitter account, the airline shared images of a new Boeing 737 MAX 8 in the airline’s colors.
In November, Akasa Air ordered 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, estimated to be worth nearly $9 billion. The order includes two variants of the MAX, the 737-8 and the high-capacity 737-8-200.

At the time, Akasa Air CEO Vinay Dube said, “We are delighted to partner with Boeing for our first aircraft order and thank them for their confidence in Akasa Air’s business plan and management team. We believe the new 737 MAX aircraft will support our goal of running not only a profitable, reliable and affordable airline, but also an environmentally friendly company with the youngest and greenest fleet in Indian skies.”
Dube said the airline intends to start commercial operations in July 2022 and expects to have 18 aircraft by the end of March 2023.
