Syria on Friday suspended all flights to and from Damascus International Airport following an Israeli airstrike in its vicinity, a pro-government daily reported.

The attack caused damage to the runway, said the Al-Watan report, which gave no further details.

For its part, the state news agency SANA confirmed the suspension of all flights due to the fact that “part of the technical equipment stopped working”, but did not mention an attack.

The airfield is located south of Damascus. The air traffic monitoring website Flightradar24 showed no flights in the vicinity of the site at midday Friday, the Associated Press reported.

The announcement came hours after Syrian state media reported Israeli airstrikes on some military positions south of the capital early Friday, which left one injured and material damage.
