Gatwick Airport cancels 26 easyJet flights due to staff shortage

London’s Gatwick airport canceled 26 easyJet flights on Tuesday due to staff shortages at the airfield due to sick leave.

The last-minute employee absences occurred at Gatwick’s air traffic control tower, an airport spokesman said.

The aerodrome confirmed that 13 flights arriving and another 13 scheduled to depart today were cancelled, out of a total of 180 easyJet services scheduled for this day.

EasyJet launches 21 new routes from Lisbon.

“As of 7am, restrictions have been placed on a number of flights at Gatwick due to late calls from staff due to illness at the air traffic control tower,” a spokeswoman for the airfield explained.

The source added that “some flights could suffer, unfortunately, throughout the day, delays or cancellations” and apologized for the inconvenience.

Throughout the summer, thousands of passengers have been affected by flight cancellations and delays at a time of crisis in the industry, which is experiencing a lack of personnel while the demand for air transport has resurfaced after the pandemic, EFE reported.
