Iberia Express cabin crew plan a 10-day strike

Cabin crew at airline Iberia Express plan to go on strike from August 28 to September 6, according to a union statement released on Wednesday, in another labor dispute stemming from the industry’s turbulent recovery.

The strike at Iberia Express, backed by USO and SITCPLA unions, follows several walkouts in Spain and other European countries amid staff complaints about wages amid rising cost of living and deteriorating working conditions caused by the boom in travel after pandemic restrictions were lifted.

Iberia Express operates short and medium haul routes to more than 40 European cities to and from Madrid.

Cabin crews are demanding better working conditions and wage increases to offset inflation, both unions said in a joint statement.

“We are very disappointed with the management of Iberia Express, which has shown that it does not keep its word and does not respect the workers who have fought to keep the company afloat.”

The Iberia Express strike follows similar ones at Ryanair and EasyJet.
