China’s aviation regulator will grant certification to the C919 narrow-body jet on Sept. 19, local media and an industry source said Tuesday.
The aircraft, produced by state-owned aircraft manufacturer COMAC, will be China’s rival to the Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320.

China Times first reported the certification date, which is symbolic because it coincides with the model name.
China Eastern Airlines, the aircraft’s first customer, has said it expects to take delivery of one of the planes this year.
