Flight record in Austrian airspace
Austria registers a strong increase in flights in its airspace, with a historical record of 102,000 in the month of July, due in large part to the diversions that many planes have to make to avoid the war zone in Ukraine.
After recovering from the drop caused by the coronavirus crisis, the number of flights in July was 8% higher than in the same month of 2019, Austro Control, Austria’s air navigation manager, said Friday in a statement.

The increase is attributed to the “change in traffic flows” caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as numerous routes have been “extensively diverted” from their usual route to avoid the violent conflict zone, EFE reported.
Never before has the Alpine republic’s airspace been crossed by so many long-haul flights.
