The low-cost airline JetSMART announced this Tuesday its new direct route between Montevideo (Uruguay) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), which will start operating as of March 28, 2023.
The announcement was made at a conference held in the capital of Uruguay, which was attended by company authorities and the country’s Minister of Tourism, Tabaré Viera.

“We are pleased to share with everyone the start of ticket sales for our direct route between Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro,” JetSMART’s commercial director, Víctor Mejía, told EFE.
He indicated that tickets are already available on the company’s web page, and added that the flights – which will be operated in Airbus A320 and Airbus A321 aircraft – will be three times a week: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
He also pointed out that there is currently a promotional fare and that the price for the Montevideo-Rio de Janeiro leg is US$133 including taxes and fees, while the Rio de Janeiro-Montevideo leg is US$78 including taxes and fees.
In January 2022, JetSMART began operating in Uruguay with three weekly frequencies between Montevideo and Santiago de Chile.
