TransNusa, first airline outside China to receive the ARJ21
Indonesian low-cost airline TransNusa became the first foreign carrier to take delivery of the Chinese-developed regional airliner, the COMAC ARJ21.
The aircraft is configured to carry 95 passengers in a single class.
The airline has 30 COMAC ARJ21-700 aircraft on order as part of a plan to expand its fleet.

TransNusa’s interest in the ARJ21 can be partly explained by its ownership structure. China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings (CALC) owns a 49% stake in the airline and is a subsidiary of state-owned China Everbright Group, which has a long-term customer relationship with state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC). CALC deepened that relationship in 2018 when it signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the aircraft manufacturer to increase sales and operation of Chinese-made aircraft.
COMAC also developed the C919, which is expected to begin operations in April 2023 with China Eastern Airlines.
