An official of the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) and a criminal died after a shooting that occurred as a result of a botched robbery at Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport in Santiago, Chile.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning on the tarmac of the air terminal when around 12 armed men in three vehicles attempted to rob a truckload of valuables.

According to witnesses, at around 07:30 am a LATAM Airlines flight from Miami landed, allegedly carrying a cargo with money inside, which was to be received by the cash-in-transit truck. After the passengers disembarked and the procedure to remove the cargo began, the criminals were intercepted by DGAC security guards and an exchange of gunfire ensued.
The subjects escaped and minutes later, two vehicles were found burned on the Vespucio Norte highway and in the vicinity of the airport. Another vehicle was also found in Lo Prado, which would have been used in the attack.
The Western Robbery Brigade of the Investigative Police (PDI) is carrying out an extensive police operation to find the whereabouts of the subjects, reported CNN Chile.
