In order to formally reestablish air traffic and unify procedures in search and rescue operations, Colombia and Venezuela signed five agreements that favor civil aviation in both countries.
The agreements detail aspects related to air traffic between Barranquilla – Maiquetia, Bogota – Maiquetia, Maiquetia – Cucuta and San Antonio del Tachira – Cucuta.

These operational letters of agreement include the unification of SAR procedures, which consists of providing search and rescue services in emergency situations, in compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations for Colombia and Venezuela, as well as cooperation for mutual training and education. This will increase safety in air operations between the two countries, improve in-flight information, and create cooperation for mutual training and education.
The documents will be the guide to achieve the objectives of development and growth of civil aviation between both States, in an orderly, safe and sustainable manner.
The face-to-face meeting between the civil aviation authorities of Colombia and Venezuela was held at the facilities of the Center for Aeronautical Studies (CEA), in the city of Bogota, and was chaired by Sergio París Mendoza, Director General of Civil Aeronautics, and Juan Manuel Teixeira Diaz, President of the National Institute of Civil Aviation of Venezuela.
