This winter, Iberia will fly for the first time to Rovaniemi starting in December, becoming the first airline to operate direct scheduled flights from Madrid to the capital of Lapland (Finland), also known for being the official hometown of Santa Claus.
The route will be inaugurated on December 2 and will be available until February 10 with two weekly frequencies on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Customers will be able to purchase tickets to visit Rovaniemi from 199 euros each way on a round-trip basis.

“Rovaniemi is a destination in which we have seen a growing interest from our customers, and our goal is to always offer the best connectivity from Spain with new routes that diversify our destination proposition and add value to the Madrid hub,” explains Mª Jesús López-Solás, Iberia’s commercial, network and alliances director.
“We are delighted to welcome Iberia as the first airline to operate direct flights between the Spanish capital and Rovaniemi Airport, the official airport of Santa Claus! The route will make flying to Lapland from Madrid more accessible and will start just in time for the winter vacations. The twice-weekly flights will also connect passengers travelling on Iberia’s extensive network via the Spanish airline’s hub in Madrid,” explained Petri Vuori, Director of Route Development at Finavia, the Finnish airport operator.
Since 2010, Rovaniemi is officially Santa Claus’ hometown and, of course, it is possible to visit the most famous inhabitant of the area every day of the year in Santa Claus Village, located in the Arctic Circle. The village is home to activities, stores, restaurants and cafes. Visitors can enjoy husky and reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobile tours, and visit ice and snow constructions.
