LATAM Group aircraft occupancy reached 86.8% in July

LATAM Airlines Group continues to deliver more and better connectivity to its respective passengers and in the first seven months of the year transported 41 million passengers, representing a growth of 20.1% over the same period last year. In July alone, the group mobilized 6.8 million passengers, 19.2% more than in 2022 and 2% more than in 2019.

During the month, the aircraft occupancy factor increased 4.4 percentage points compared to the same month last year, reaching 86.8%, the highest level achieved by the group since 2019. It highlighted the occupancy level of international flights operated by its subsidiaries, which reached 88.8%, while the occupancy factor on domestic flights of the subsidiary in Brazil was 84.9% and in the subsidiaries in Spanish-speaking countries (Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Peru) was 84.8%.

These operational statistics are part of the LATAM Group’s monthly traffic report, which also includes some operational news of the last few weeks.

LATAM to increase its flights between São Paulo and Lisbon

Thus, for example, several announcements stand out, such as the Santiago – Melbourne route (3 weekly frequencies operated by LATAM Airlines Group SA) and the Guarulhos – Johannesburg route (3 weekly frequencies operated by LATAM Airlines Brazil) from September and the Lima – Caracas and Lima – Havana routes from October 29 operated by LATAM Airlines Peru. In turn, LATAM Airlines Colombia will operate Medellin-Miami, LATAM Airlines Peru will operate Lima-Atlanta and Delta Air Lines will add a second daily flight between Atlanta and Bogota from October. The Cartagena-Atlanta route, operated by Delta Air Lines, will begin operations in December.

An important milestone in August was the debut of the Sao Paulo Guarulhos – Los Angeles route by LATAM Airlines Brazil, the first route in the Brazilian market in the context of the JV between LATAM and Delta. With an average duration of 12 hours, the direct flight will have the capacity to carry an average of 110,000 travelers per year directly between the two destinations.

LATAM Cargo also made announcements. The subsidiaries increased their frequencies to connect North America with Central and South America. Starting this month, the cargo subsidiaries will increase to 4 weekly flights from Miami to Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic). In addition, new flights were added from Miami to Guayaquil (Ecuador) and Lima (Peru), leaving three regular frequencies.

By August, the LATAM group will continue to fly to 143 destinations in 23 countries and plans to have a total of 1,441 daily flights, 1,230 domestic and 220 international. In terms of affiliates, Brazil leads with 747 flights per day, followed by Peru with 272 flights, Chile and Colombia with 225 flights per day each, and then Ecuador with 56 flights.

Passenger traffic

In July 2023, passenger traffic (measured in revenue passenger-kilometers – RPK) increased by 19.6% compared to the same period in 2022, and operations measured in ASK (available seat-kilometers) increased by 13.5%. In cargo, capacity (measured in available tonne-kilometers – ATK) increased by 8.8% over June 2022.
