City Airlines to start flights in the summer of 2024

New carrier City Airlines will begin flying in the summer of 2024, the Lufthansa Group announced Wednesday.

The airline, which was founded last year and received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the German Federal Aviation Authority in June, will operate its flights from Munich and Frankfurt and thus also offer feeder flights for Lufthansa. City Airlines will operate together with Lufthansa CityLine.

The group indicated that the hiring of operating personnel will begin in November.

Lufthansa will be the first to equip its A320s with Airbus’ new L Bins

“With City Airlines we want to create prospects for the coming decades and secure sustainable jobs in Germany. Only in this way can we sustainably grow and strengthen the Munich and Frankfurt hubs,” said Jens Fehlinger, CEO of City Airlines.

Although City Airlines will begin operations with Airbus A319 aircraft, the Lufthansa Group is also currently evaluating the possibility of using Airbus A220 or Embraer 195-E2 aircraft.

“The competitive reinforcement of the short-haul network is essential for the Lufthansa Group’s market position and for the expected growth of the long-haul segment in the German market,” the airline said via a statement.
