Copa Airlines joins “Blue Heart” campaign to fight human trafficking

Copa Airlines joins the Ministry of Security of the Republic of Panama in promoting the Blue Heart Campaign against Human Trafficking, an initiative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) that aims to prevent, sensitize and raise awareness of this problem that affects millions of people around the world.

“The first step to prevention is information. Therefore, at Copa Airlines we want to be facilitators of knowledge and transcend borders by taking this message to all our passengers in the 81 destinations and 32 countries in which we operate, through the Hub of the Americas. As a responsible company, we want to be agents for change, and we believe that, through tools such as information and awareness, we can take the message beyond our borders because this is a problem that affects the entire region,” said Laura Plata, Copa Airlines’ Director of Employee Experience.

“The fight against human trafficking is a common challenge that crosses borders, so raising awareness of this problem is the first step to combat it, we take on the challenge of pursuing this crime as President of the National Commission against Trafficking in Persons and Copa Airlines’ response to join the Blue Heart Campaign, is a sign of its Corporate Social Responsibility,” said Juan Manuel Pino F., Minister of Public Security of the Republic of Panama.

The airline, in an effort to combat this serious violation of human rights worldwide, placed a special decal alluding to the campaign on five of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft in order to carry a message to raise awareness among passengers.

Copa Airlines has been a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact since October 24, 2001. This commitment translates into the incorporation of 10 universal principles related to human rights, labor, environment and anti-corruption into its strategies and operations.

The Blue Heart Campaign aims to turn this symbol into an international emblem in the fight against human trafficking, an alarming crime that causes a profound traumatic impact on the physical and mental health of its victims.
