Delta and LATAM celebrate first anniversary of their Joint Venture

One year after the start of their Joint Venture, Delta and LATAM take stock and announce that the alliance has allowed them to launch 6 new routes, operate 15,000 flights, transport more than 3 million passengers and travel more than 90 million kilometers, equivalent to the distance between the Earth and Mercury.

With the goal of significantly improving connectivity and the passenger travel experience between North America (United States and Canada) and South America (Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay), Delta and LATAM announced new routes, including Bogota-Orlando (LATAM); and Sao Paulo-Los Angeles (LATAM), the only direct route between Brazil and the West Coast of the United States.

On October 29, the alliance will inaugurate 2 new routes and increase frequencies on existing routes. Among the announcements are LATAM’s new Medellin-Miami and Lima-Atlanta routes and Delta’s second frequency between Atlanta and Bogota.

December will see the inauguration of the new seasonal New York-Rio de Janeiro route (Delta) and the resumption of the Atlanta-Cartagena route (Delta).

“Thanks to our alliance with Delta, our passengers will not only have more flights and faster connections to more than 300 destinations, but also access to greater benefits such as joint accrual of miles or points in frequent flyer programs or access to more than 50 Delta Sky Club lounges in the United States and five LATAM Lounges in South America, among other benefits,” said Martin St. George, Commercial Vice President of LATAM Airlines Group.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the first anniversary of our transformative partnership. Together, we have connected North and South America and achieved impressive milestones in just one year. The sky is the limit for Delta and LATAM, and we are excited to continue this incredible journey together,” said Alex Antilla, Delta Air Lines Vice President for Latin America.

During the first year of the Joint Venture, the alliance also had a significant impact in Miami, LATAM’s main gateway to the United States, increasing capacity by more than 10% and connecting with the 1.7 million seats offered by Delta from this city.

In Atlanta, Delta’s main hub and the world’s largest, the alliance reached another important milestone by approaching nearly one million seats offered on 3,500 flights to South America. This growth was driven by a 50% capacity increase on key routes connecting to LATAM’s hubs in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Bogota, Colombia, Lima, Peru and Santiago, Chile.

Other hubs also grew during the first year of the alliance. Connectivity to and from New York, for example, strengthened by offering more than one million seats, while Los Angeles achieved a 40% growth in capacity.

Delta and LATAM said they expect to continue announcing new routes and enhanced benefits in the coming months to further improve the travel experience for those flying between North and South America.
