LATAM Cargo announced Tuesday it took delivery of its third Boeing 767 BCF of the year, completing its fleet growth plan, bringing its total to 19 freighter aircraft. This milestone reinforces the company’s position as the largest cargo airline in South America.

The growth plan for the cargo fleet announced by LATAM in 2021, resulted in the addition of eight aircraft converted from passenger to cargo, which translated into a growth of more than 70% in capacity compared to that existing prior to the pandemic. LATAM Cargo expanded its fleet evenly with the Boeing 767-300 BCF, as this is the ideal aircraft to operate in the region thanks to its efficiency, versatility and size.

“The arrival of this aircraft reflects both our commitment to our customers and our focus on maintaining a sustainable operation in the long term. This growth plan was structured jointly, thinking about connecting the region’s export and import industries through a broad and reliable offer. At the same time, we considered the volatility of air cargo and focused on efficiency, diversification and flexibility. While the industry is going through challenging times, we are pleased to have access to this new aircraft to take advantage of the opportunities in the territory,” says Gudny Genskowsky, Senior VP of Network and Cargo Alliances.

In the short term, the new aircraft will strengthen cherry exports from Chile in the last quarter of the year, and increase available capacity for the Colombian and Ecuadorian markets during the Valentine’s Day flower season. Subsequently, it will enable the group to expand its long-range operations from North America and Europe to South America.

The LATAM group currently has 321 aircraft, 58 Boeing passenger aircraft (767, 777 and 787 models) and 245 Airbus aircraft (A319, A320, A320neo, A321 and A321neo models), in addition to a combined fleet of 19 767 freighter aircraft from its cargo subsidiaries, LATAM Cargo Chile, LATAM Cargo Colombia and LATAM Cargo Brazil.
