LATAM’s robust sustainability strategy and its significant progress in this area earned the group’s cargo subsidiaries recognition from the International Air Cargo Association (TIACA) with the Air Cargo Sustainability Award, in its fifth edition.
The distinction considers both companies and outstanding initiatives in the sector that are leading the way towards a more sustainable air cargo industry. LATAM Cargo stood out against 12 competitors in the sector, being selected by a jury composed of 5 experts linked to the industry and sustainability, as the winner in the corporate category for the presentation of its sustainability initiatives, collectively referred to as “A Necessary Destination”.
“As a group, we have set ambitious goals because we believe this is a necessity, not an option. This strategy and our objectives are the roadmap we have drawn up to meet this priority. We thank TIACA for this recognition, as it reinforces that we are on the right path and encourages us to continue working hard on our commitment to the planet and society,” said Cristina Oñate, VP of Marketing and Product Development at LATAM Cargo.

The award-winning initiatives are based on the company’s sustainability strategy launched in 2021, and are divided into three action fronts: Climate Change, Circular Economy and Shared Value. Under these pillars, the company defined a roadmap with which it would move forward for the next 30 years with the goal of being an asset in the countries where it operates, generating economic, social and environmental value in each of them.
To meet its objectives, the LATAM group set a goal of reducing and offsetting the equivalent of 50% of domestic emissions by 2030, on the way to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. It also set the goals of eliminating single-use plastics throughout its operations by 2023, and becoming a zero-waste-to-landfill group by 2027. Finally, it defined to make its connectivity capacity available for the benefit of communities in the region, under its Solidarity Aircraft program.
