Iberia announced Monday that it will once again fly directly from Madrid to Tokyo’s Narita International Airport from October 27, 2024, coinciding with the start of the next winter season. The Spanish airline will offer from then on and continuously throughout the year three weekly flights.
This flight will become the only direct option connecting Spain with Japan.
The Airbus A350 is the model chosen by Iberia to operate this route, which has a capacity for 348 passengers: 31 in Business, 24 in Premium Economy and 293 in Economy.

During the winter season alone, which runs from October 27 to March 25, 45,000 seats will be on sale between the two countries.
As of today, customers wishing to purchase tickets on this route can do so through the airline’s website, with prices starting at 931 euros roundtrip.
Madrid, gateway from Asia to Spain, the rest of Europe and Latin America
The flight to Tokyo, in addition to adding a new destination to Iberia’s route map, also marks the airline’s return to Japan and Asia. The first time the company flew to the Japanese capital was in 1986. Unlike the direct flights that will be offered next year, at that time, the flight plan included two stops, one in Barcelona and one in Mumbai. In 1992 with the addition to the fleet of the Airbus A340 and the upgraded version of the Boeing 747, the company operated direct flights between the two capitals until 1998. In 2016, it again offered this route until 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.
“The return to Tokyo is great news. It represents Iberia’s return to Japan, where it began operations in 1986, and together with the recent addition of direct flights to Doha, it confirms our strong commitment to Asia. The economic growth of the countries of this continent is immense, as all forecasts for the coming decades indicate. From Iberia, we want to show the potential that Madrid has as a gateway to Spain, the rest of Europe and Latin America to connect both parts of the world,” said María Jesús López Solás, Iberia’s Commercial and Network Development and Alliances Director.
