Volotea announced Tuesday a new route between Athens (Greece) and Ancona (Italy), which will begin operations on June 2, 2024, with twice-weekly frequencies on Wednesdays and Sundays and offering 13,000 seats for sale. This brings to 21 the total number of routes offered by the airline in 2024 from Athens International Airport and follows the carrier’s recent announcement of new connections to Naples, Split and Brest from the Greek capital.
The airline held a press conference in Athens in November to share its growth plans for the region in 2024, stating that it will increase its capacity by 23% compared to 2023 and by 142% compared to the opening of its base in 2018, reaching more than 835,000 available seats. It also confirmed that it will maintain its two-aircraft fleet at the base, ensuring stable local employment opportunities with a workforce of 80 direct employees and more than 450 indirect employees by next year.

“We are very pleased to enhance our offering for the summer of 2024 at Athens International Airport. With this new connection, we bridge the gap between Greece and Italy, making it easier for travelers to plan a comfortable and enjoyable weekend getaway to explore the charming Italian region of Marche from Athens,” said Valeria Rebasti, Volotea’s International Market Director Italy, Greece, Germany and Southeast Europe.
Since 2012, Volotea has been firmly established in Greece, currently operating through an extensive network of 13 Greek airports, covering Athens, Kefalonia, Corfu, Heraklion/Crete, Kalamata, Karpathos, Mykonos, Preveza/Lefkada, Rhodes, Santorini, Skiathos, Thessaloniki and Zakynthos.
By 2024, the company plans to offer more than 1.6 million seats in the country, up 13% from 2023, and to introduce, in addition to the new Athens routes, five new routes from Greek destinations, connecting Corfu, Kalamata and Rhodes with Lille, as well as Kalamata and Rhodes with Lyon.
