Five dead and 379 evacuated after two planes collide at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport

A collision Tuesday between a commercial airliner and a Coast Guard plane killed five people and forced the evacuation of all 379 occupants of the Japan Airlines flight at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, Japanese authorities confirmed.

The event occurred when Japan Airlines Flight 516, operated by an Airbus A350, from Sapporo (in northern Japan) collided with the Coast Guard aircraft upon landing at 17:47 at Haneda, one of the two international airports serving the Japanese capital.

Of the 379 occupants of the Japan Airlines plane (367 passengers and 12 crew members) who were evacuated, 17 have been injured, while of the six occupants of the Coast Guard aircraft, only the captain, who is seriously injured, has managed to survive.
