4th United incident in a week: A320 emergency landing in Los Angeles

A United Airlines Airbus A320 bound for Mexico City from San Francisco made an emergency landing in Los Angeles Friday afternoon after the crew reported a hydraulic problem, the airline’s fourth flight emergency this week.

The aircraft landed safely at Los Angeles International Airport at approximately 4:30 p.m., and none of the 110 people on board were injured, United Airlines said in a statement.

Several fire trucks were ready to intervene but did not need to, said Nicholas Prange, spokesman for the city Fire Department.

“Preliminary information shows that there was only a problem with one system on this aircraft,” he said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that it will investigate the emergency landing.

Hours earlier, passengers on another United Airlines flight had to be evacuated after the plane rolls off runway in Houston. No injuries were reported among the 160 passengers and six crew members.

On Thursday, a United-operated Boeing 777-200 bound for Japan lost a tire after takeoff from San Francisco and was diverted to Los Angeles where it landed safely. The plane had 249 people on board.

On Monday, a United Boeing 737 bound for Florida departing Houston returned to the airport shortly after takeoff after the engine ingested some plastic bubble wrap that was on the airfield prior to departure, the airline said.

Separately, the NTSB said on Thursday it is investigating a Boeing 737 MAX 8 flight last month that experienced “stuck” rudder pedals after it touched down on the runway for its landing.
