Iberia celebrates 75 years since it began connecting Madrid with Mexico City. This flight, which took place in 1950 and was made aboard a Douglas DC-4 aircraft, left the Spanish capital and made a stopover in the Azores Islands to set course for Havana and then reach its final destination.
The airline wanted to celebrate this anniversary at Espacio Iberia, an experience center in the heart of the Polanco neighborhood in Mexico City, which was attended by Almudena Maíllo, Madrid City Councilor for Tourism, accompanied by Víctor Moneo, Iberia’s Director of Strategic Alliances and Agreements.
At the event, Almudena Maíllo pointed out the need to continue expanding connectivity with Mexico and “consolidate the capital as a gateway from Latin America.” “The objective is to continue favoring the demand for Madrid as a destination by the Mexican traveler and to reinforce the positioning of the capital as the main gateway to Europe for Mexico and the rest of Latin America.”

Víctor Moneo added that “Iberia is proud to be celebrating such a significant date as 75 years connecting Spain and Mexico, and to be doing so from our Iberia Space, a wonderful place where thousands of Mexicans have already accompanied us since March 1 and which will be open until March 21. In addition, this center is a reflection of the important commitment that Iberia is making to Mexico, which is the main destination in our long-haul network”.
In 2024, Iberia deployed record connectivity between Madrid and Mexico City, with three daily flights aboard the largest and most advanced aircraft in its fleet, the A350. This allows the airline to carry more than 2,000 people between the two countries every day and to offer more than 772,000 seats during the year, 17% more than its pre-pandemic figures.
Europe, much closer
To celebrate the 75th anniversary and the presence of Espacio Iberia in Mexico City, Iberia has launched a price campaign that allows travel to Europe at the most competitive prices on the market.
In this regard, the campaign is available until March 21, and applies to flights from Mexico City. Thus, you can find flights in Premium Economy cabin from CDMX to Madrid from 18,659 pesos (US$1106), to Rome from 19,148 pesos (US$1135) or Frankfurt from 19,755 pesos (US$1171).
Similarly, in Economy cabin, customers traveling from Mexico will also find reduced fares to destinations such as Barcelona from 10,257 pesos (US$608), Milan from 9937 pesos (US$589) or Zurich from 11,675 pesos (US$692).
Espacio Iberia, open until March 21 in Mexico City
Since March 1, Espacio Iberia has already welcomed thousands of Mexicans who have come to live the full Iberia travel experience, but without leaving Mexico City, in the Polanco neighborhood.
This space will be open until March 21 so that all visitors have the opportunity to try the seats of the new A350 and taste the menus served on board, fly a plane thanks to a flight simulator, learn about the history of the company through its historic uniforms and, of course, participate in various events such as wine tastings, ham, Madrid stew and other typical products of Spanish cuisine.
Espacio Iberia is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the week. All those who want to enjoy the experiences can book, all of them free of charge, through the website www.espacioiberia.com.
