Iberia to be launch customer for Airbus A321XLR
Spain’s Iberia will be the first airline in the world to incorporate the Airbus A321XLR into its fleet, with Boston and Washington in the United States as its first tentative routes, the airline’s president, Marco Sansavini, announced Thursday.
In his speech at the Expansion Forum, Sansavini stressed that, with this aircraft, which will join Iberia’s fleet after next summer, the airline will strengthen its long-haul network in an innovative way.

This is because it will be able to make transoceanic trips with a narrow-body aircraft, which, in addition, consumes about 30% less fuel per seat than twin-aisle models.
“It is one of these aircraft that has an element of business model transformation,” as it has the ability to fly to much longer destinations, i.e. not only European, but, for example, it can go as far as the east coast of the United States and as far as Canada.
The configuration of this new Iberia aircraft is 14 seats in Business Class and 168 in Economy.
