LEVEL, the Barcelona-based long-haul airline of the IAG group, has renewed its catering equipment – trolleys, ovens and standard units – to make it more sustainable, as the new onboard trolleys are made of lighter, state-of-the-art materials.

The introduction of this new on-board equipment allows the aircraft operating weight to be reduced by an approximate annual total of 678 t, with fuel savings of 203 t, contributing to a 508 t reduction in CO₂ emissions.

LEVEL has incorporated a total of 1,250 trolleys, 1,500 standard units and 450 ovens into its branded fleet. In addition to reducing the weight of cargo on the aircraft, another advantage to be highlighted is the greater ease of use on board by crews and catering staff, because being lighter, this equipment is easier to handle during aircraft loading and the various services of the flight.

This renovation is a further demonstration of LEVEL’s commitment to sustainability. Among the airline’s outstanding initiatives are the reduction of plastic on board, the optimization of the fueling procedure up to thirty minutes before flight departure and the possibility of customizing the menu on demand through its pre-sale platform, a fact that helps reduce food waste and optimize weight on board, contributing to a lower environmental impact.

In addition, LEVEL, as part of the IAG group, has set a commitment to achieve zero net carbon emissions by 2050. This global target reflects the group’s dedication to leading the aviation industry in implementing sustainable practices and reducing its carbon footprint.

“The renovation of our catering equipment is a significant step towards improving our operational efficiency and reducing our impact on the environment. This new equipment not only underscores our firm commitment to sustainability in all our operations, but also optimizes the onboard experience and makes work easier for our crews and external suppliers,” said Ricard Falomir, Chief Digital & Customer Officer of LEVEL.
