Spanish airline Air Europa’s owner Globalia said on Wednesday there was an interest from Air France-KLM in potentially taking a stake in the airline.

“There is an interest, but there is also interest from other airlines and funds. Nothing is sealed,” Globalia said in a statement after El Economista newspaper reported earlier on Wednesday the Franco-Dutch group was considering taking a 20% stake in Air Europa.

Air Europa increases to more than 5.8 million seats for winter season

In August, IAG, which owns British Airways and Iberia, abandoned its plan to acquire Air Europa after the European antitrust body said the remedies offered by the group were not sufficient.

IAG had acquired a 20% stake in Air Europa in 2022 for €100 million.

Air France-KLM said on Wednesday there were discussions underway about commercial cooperation with Air Europa within the framework on the SkyTeam alliance, but would not comment on any plans to acquire a stake.
