Qantas, Australia’s national airline, is taking a significant step into the future with its first uniform redesign in over a decade. This change aligns with a series of historic investments in its fleet and the ambitious Project Sunrise initiative, which aims to conquer the final frontier of aviation.

A Uniform Reflecting Qantas’ Future

As the airline continues its transformation, the uniform worn by its employees—one of the most iconic visual representations of the brand—will also evolve. To achieve this, Qantas has launched a search for a new Australian designer to lead the change and bring the airline’s aesthetic into a new era.

The redesign process begins with the participation of the airline’s uniformed employees, numbering over 17,500. Through surveys and consultations, Qantas seeks to incorporate their input and ensure that the new uniform proudly represents the future of the national carrier.

Vanessa Hudson: “This is the Beginning of a New Era”

Qantas Group CEO Vanessa Hudson emphasized the importance of this redesign in the airline’s transformation strategy:

“We have ambitious plans for the future, and transforming how we represent the brand is essential. Our uniform embodies the spirit of Qantas worldwide. With an expanding international and domestic network, a historic fleet renewal program underway, and the last frontier of global aviation on the horizon, this is the perfect time to define a new look for our team that reflects where we are headed.”

Hudson also highlighted that throughout the airline’s history, the evolution of the uniform has reflected its growth and modernization. While the design has changed over time, employees’ pride in wearing the uniform has remained constant.

Iconic Designers and a Legacy of Elegance

The current uniform, designed by Martin Grant in 2013, has been a key part of Qantas’ visual identity for the past decade. However, the airline has collaborated with an impressive roster of designers throughout its history, including legendary names such as Peter Morrissey, Yves Saint Laurent, Emilio Pucci, and George Gross & Harry Who.

These designers have successfully captured defining moments from Qantas’ 105-year history, adapting the uniform to the trends and needs of each era.

New Designer Selected and Launched in 2027

Qantas has begun the process of selecting several Australian designers, who will assess the requirements for the new uniform before a final decision is made in the coming months. The winning design is expected to be announced soon, with plans to debut the new uniform in 2027.

This redesign is part of a broader investment in modernizing the airline, which includes acquiring more than 100 new aircraft over the next decade and upgrading the existing fleet.
