Copa Airlines announced this Tuesday the addition of San Diego, California, to its network of international destinations starting June 25, 2025. With this strategic expansion, the Panamanian airline reinforces its commitment to enhancing connectivity between Latin America and the United States, establishing San Diego as its third destination in California and the 17th in the U.S. territory.
“The opening of this new route strengthens our network of destinations and expands travel options for our passengers, reaffirming Copa’s commitment to efficiency, punctuality, and the high standards of service that distinguish us. With San Diego, we facilitate connectivity between Southern California and Central, South America, and the Caribbean, promoting tourism and commercial exchange across the continent,” commented Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines.
San Diego: A Destination with Unique Attractions
Known as “The Best City in North America,” San Diego stands out for its cultural diversity, quality of life, and vibrant culinary and music scene. Among its main attractions are:
- Coronado Beach: Renowned for its white sand and the iconic Hotel del Coronado.
- La Jolla Cove: A natural sanctuary surrounded by cliffs, home to sea lions, and offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean.
- San Diego Zoo: Considered one of the best in the world for its diversity of species and conservation programs.
- Old Town San Diego State Historic Park: A journey through colonial history with a variety of culinary and architectural offerings.
Flight Frequency and Schedules
Copa Airlines will initially offer four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The established schedules for this new connection are:
- Flight CM847: Departs from Tocumen International Airport (Panama) at 1:16 p.m. (local time), arriving at San Diego International Airport at 6:15 p.m. (local time).
- Flight CM850: Departs from San Diego at 8:58 p.m. (local time), arriving in Panama City at 5:20 a.m. (local time).
Expanded Connections Through Hub of the Americas
With the addition of San Diego, Copa Airlines continues to solidify its Hub of the Americas in Panama as the main connection center in Latin America. This new route will provide efficient and comfortable access between this Californian city and multiple destinations in North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean.
