Panama: Tocumen Airport Expands Its Connectivity in 2025 with New International Routes

The Tocumen International Airport, Panama’s main air terminal, is reinforcing its strategic role as a regional connection hub with the addition of new international routes. In 2025, the airport will significantly expand its operations with the arrival of airlines such as Condor and the return of Aeroméxico and Air China, as well as the expansion of routes by United Airlines, according to the airport’s Operations Manager, Claudio Dutary.

Impact on Tourism and Global Connectivity

Currently, the airport connects to 87 destinations in South America, Central America, the Caribbean, the United States, and Europe, including major cities such as Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam, and Istanbul. In 2024, it closed with the operation of 12 commercial airlines and 17 cargo airlines, with an average of 430 daily flights.

New International Connections

United Airlines: Starting May 22, it will inaugurate a direct route between San Francisco and Panama City, operated daily with a Boeing 737 MAX 8 with a capacity for 166 passengers.

Condor: It will begin operations on June 11 with flights between Frankfurt and Panama twice a week, using Airbus A330-900neo aircraft with a capacity for 310 passengers.

Aeroméxico: It returns with a direct route between Mexico City and Tocumen starting June 12, with daily flights operated by Boeing 737 aircraft.

Air China: It is expected to resume operations between June and July of this year after suspending its flights in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Consolidation of Tocumen as a Regional Hub

The Tocumen International Airport continues to strengthen its position as a central connection hub between North America, Central America, South America, and Europe. These expansions not only benefit travelers but also boost tourism and trade, positioning Panama as a key destination in international aviation.
