The Canadian airline WestJet announced this Tuesday a new route between Halifax Stanfield International Airport and Amsterdam-Schiphol. The non-stop service will begin on May 29, 2025, and will operate up to six times per week during the summer season. This marks the first time the airline has offered direct flights between the two cities, representing a 97% increase in transatlantic seat capacity from Nova Scotia compared to the previous year.
Enhanced Connectivity and Economic Growth
According to Jared Mikoch-Gerke, WestJet’s Director of Alliances and Airport Affairs, this new route will strengthen connectivity between Europe and Canada, boosting tourism and economic opportunities in both regions.
“WestJet’s new service between Halifax and Amsterdam opens the door to record growth in Nova Scotia through strategic investments that enhance the connection with Europe,” emphasized Mikoch-Gerke.

Expansion of Transatlantic Routes in 2025
The new flight to Amsterdam is part of a series of new transatlantic routes that WestJet will launch in the spring of 2025. During the summer, the airline will operate more flights to Europe from Halifax than ever before, with direct services to key destinations such as Paris, London, Dublin, Edinburgh, and now Amsterdam. Travelers can already book these flights through the airline’s official website.
Additional Connections with KLM
Thanks to WestJet’s codeshare agreement with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, passengers will have access to multiple European cities through Amsterdam. This agreement will allow travelers to enjoy a single check-in process, baggage checked through to their final destination, and the ability to earn rewards through the WestJet Rewards program.
