Russia: Yakovlev Receives Approval for Serial Production of MC-21

The aircraft manufacturer Yakovlev, part of Rostec’s United Aircraft Corporation, has received approval from the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency for the serial production of the MC-21. The information was confirmed on March 26 through the regulator’s official Telegram channel.

Inspection and Certification

According to the statement, the Rosaviatsia Commission conducted an inspection at the Irkutsk Aviation Complex to assess the compliance of Yakovlev’s quality and safety management system. Following the review, the company was granted an extended production approval certificate, identified as No. FAVT-I-11, signed by Andrey Dobryakov, Deputy Head of the Federal Air Transport Agency responsible for aircraft certification.

In the “List of Authorized Works” section of this document, the medium-range MC-21 has now been added alongside the short-range Superjet 100. This certification marks a significant milestone in the advancement of Russia’s commercial aircraft production program.

Certification Plans with Russian Engines

On March 17, Anton Alikhanov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, announced that the first certification flight of an MC-21 fully equipped with the Russian PD-14 engine is scheduled to take place between June and July of this year. This milestone is part of the import substitution plan in the Russian aviation industry, driving the sector’s technological development and independence.

With this approval, Yakovlev and Russian aviation take a step forward in the production of modern aircraft, strengthening their position in the international air industry.
