TAP Air Portugal has taken a strategic step in its international expansion with the launch of a new direct route between Lisbon and Los Angeles last Friday. The airline now connects the Portuguese capital with the Californian city three times a week, using a modern Airbus A330-900 with a capacity for 298 passengers.
Itinerary Details
Initially, flights operate on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Starting May 26, TAP will add a fourth weekly frequency on Saturdays, further strengthening the airline’s presence in the U.S. market.
Schedule:
- Lisbon → Los Angeles: Departure 09:55, arrival 14:35
- Los Angeles → Lisbon: Departure 16:40, arrival 11:45 (next day)
Tickets for this new route are available starting at 679 euros for round-trip flights.
Promotional Campaign: A Ticket to Hollywood
To celebrate the launch of this route, TAP has introduced a unique promotional campaign in collaboration with Portuguese actor José Condessa. Through social media, the airline aims to find the “next Portuguese star in Hollywood.”
The challenge involves recreating a scene from a favorite movie or series and participating in a virtual casting. The prize: a round-trip flight for two to Los Angeles and two tickets to the legendary Paramount Studios.
Expansion in the U.S. and Diaspora Connection
With this new route, TAP solidifies its U.S. network, operating flights from Lisbon to eight destinations: New York, Newark, Boston, Miami, Washington DC, San Francisco, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
From Porto Airport, the airline also connects to Newark and, starting this week, to Boston.
An additional highlight is that, beginning June 3, one of the weekly flights between Lisbon and San Francisco (the Tuesday flight) will include a stop in Terceira Island, Azores. This decision opens a direct connection between the Portuguese archipelago and California, particularly benefiting the large Azorean community residing on the U.S. West Coast.
