During the 81st IATA Annual General Meeting in New Delhi, Icelandair and Turkish Airlines announced a significant expansion of their codeshare agreement. This partnership, which began in June 2023, is now entering a new phase aimed at enhancing air connectivity between Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and North America.
Starting September 5, 2025, Icelandair will launch direct flights between Reykjavik and Istanbul. The airline will operate two weekly flights during the winter season, integrated into the codeshare framework. This arrangement will allow Turkish Airlines to apply its marketing code to flights operated by the Icelandic carrier.

Simultaneously, Icelandair will place its code on selected Turkish Airlines flights beyond Istanbul, including key destinations in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. This dual integration creates an unprecedented intercontinental network for both carriers.
The goal of this expansion extends beyond commercial benefits. According to Bilal Eksi, CEO of Turkish Airlines, the cooperation represents a “strategic alignment between two trusted airlines.” The direct connection between the capitals of Iceland and Turkey will enable new traffic flows and diversify connectivity options for passengers across both continents.
Bogi Nils Bogason, CEO of Icelandair, emphasized that this alliance allows travelers to enjoy a more seamless journey through complementary networks, while reinforcing a shared commitment to service excellence and global growth.
