The National Institute of Civil Aeronautics of Venezuela (INAC) announced this Sunday, June 15, the resumption of commercial, cargo, and mail flights between the South American country and the Dominican Republic. The news, shared via INAC’s official Instagram account, marks a new chapter in bilateral air relations after more than 10 months of suspension.
What Does the Official Statement Say?
INAC’s post confirms the restart of “passenger, cargo, and mail air operations to and from the Dominican Republic.” However, the statement does not specify an exact date for the measure to take effect, leaving room for a gradual implementation or further announcements in the coming days.

This reinstatement follows the reopening of air routes with Panama, announced on Thursday, May 22. On that occasion, several airlines began reactivating their frequencies to the Central American nation, signaling a relaxation of restrictions imposed by the Venezuelan government.
Context of the Suspension: Diplomatic Tensions and Elections
Flights to and from the Dominican Republic and Panama were officially suspended on July 31, 2024, by the government of Nicolás Maduro.
Authorities justified the suspension by citing “interference actions” by these countries during Venezuela’s electoral process. According to the government, there were concerns about the potential misuse of civil aviation for purposes that could threaten the country’s sovereignty and institutional stability.
The resumption of flights with the Dominican Republic represents a significant step toward normalizing Venezuela’s international air connections. It also creates opportunities for the tourism, trade, and courier service sectors, which heavily rely on air connectivity.
