AEGEAN Airlines has announced a significant fleet investment with the addition of two Airbus A321XLR aircraft, which boast a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles. This strategic decision accelerates the launch of its first routes to India, scheduled for March 2026, with direct flights to New Delhi followed shortly by services to Mumbai.
With this addition, AEGEAN’s total order for Airbus A320/A321neo aircraft reaches 60 units, 36 of which have already been delivered. The arrival of the new A321XLRs—expected in December 2025 and January 2026—marks a key milestone in the Greek airline’s international expansion.
The new aircraft are specially configured for long-haul flights, featuring just 138 seats, including 24 Business Class suites with fully reclining beds, direct aisle access, and enhanced privacy. In Economy Class, all passengers will enjoy more personal space, 4K screens, satellite Wi-Fi, USB and power ports, as well as extra-large overhead compartments designed for intercontinental routes.
India: The New Flagship Destination
Thanks to this fleet upgrade, AEGEAN will begin operating five weekly flights to New Delhi starting in March 2026. Two months later, in May, the airline will add three weekly frequencies to Mumbai, making it its second destination in India. The detailed flight schedule will be published in September, along with the opening of ticket sales.
The focus on India reflects the growing importance of this market on the global stage. Additionally, with the arrival of four more A321LRs between 2027 and 2028, the airline is considering new routes to Bangalore, Seychelles, Maldives, Nairobi, Almaty, and Lagos.
This investment strengthens AEGEAN’s position as a competitive player in the international aviation sector and reinforces Greece’s role as a regional hub for long-haul flights outside the European Union.
According to Eftichios Vassilakis, Chairman of AEGEAN: “The addition of these two specially configured A321neo XLRs, to be delivered in 2025, along with the four A321neo LRs planned for 2027 and 2028, accelerates our access to the important Indian market and allows us to immediately enhance our product and services on flights outside the EU lasting more than four hours.”
