Arajet, the Dominican low-cost airline, continues to advance its expansion plan with the addition of its 11th aircraft, a state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX 8 named “Loma Quita Espuela.” This new addition to its fleet represents far more than operational growth: it is a direct tribute to the country’s natural reserves and a reaffirmation of its corporate social responsibility policy.
The welcoming ceremony for the aircraft took place at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) and was attended by Igor Rodríguez, Director General of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), who highlighted the significance of such initiatives for regional aviation.
“At IDAC, we applaud these kinds of actions that integrate environmental awareness into the core of the business model. Arajet is setting a regional benchmark by combining air connectivity with ecological responsibility,” Rodríguez stated.

More Destinations, Greater Positive Impact
With this new aircraft, Arajet strengthens its capacity to connect the Dominican Republic with over 26 destinations across the Americas. This was confirmed by the airline’s CEO and founder, Víctor Pacheco Méndez, via his official account on X, where he announced that the aircraft will begin operations on July 24.
“Today, we celebrate the arrival of our 11th aircraft: Loma Quita Espuela. Starting tomorrow, it will be flying to connect the Dominican Republic with the Americas,” wrote Pacheco Méndez, also emphasizing the ecological significance of the chosen name.
“Loma Quita Espuela”: More Than Just a Name
The new aircraft bears the name of a scientific reserve located in the Cordillera Septentrional, renowned for its biodiversity, landscapes, and role in the country’s cocoa production. This gesture is part of Arajet’s broader strategy: naming each of its aircraft after Dominican protected areas to educate and raise awareness among passengers about the ecological value of the territory.
The addition of the new Boeing 737 MAX 8 reinforces Arajet’s image as the flagship airline of the Dominican Republic. Its modern fleet not only enhances operational efficiency and reduces emissions but also supports its mission of combining regional connectivity with a sustainable business model.
