Lima has been selected as the host city for two of the most significant gatherings for aviation in Latin America and the Caribbean: the ALTA Aviation Law Americas and the ALTA AGM & Airline Leaders Forum. Both events will be organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) and will bring together the industry’s key players.

The ALTA Aviation Law Americas 2025 will take place from September 17 to 19. This specialized forum will focus on the legal and regulatory landscape shaping the present and future of air transport in the region. The agenda will cover topics such as:
- The impact of economic sanctions and financial shocks on the industry.
- Legal challenges posed by supply chain and infrastructure tensions.
- The evolution of liability in cargo transport.
- Regulatory adaptation to the introduction of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).
- Growing risks of war and cybersecurity threats.

Under the theme “Aviation in Latin America and the Caribbean at a Crossroads: Addressing Challenges and Seizing Opportunities,” the forum will address strategic issues such as:

- Limited infrastructure, which is hindering airlines’ operational growth.
- The integration of artificial intelligence into industry processes.
- Topics like aviation safety, tourism, crisis management, sustainability, and cargo transport.
Jorge Chávez Airport’s New Terminal: A Catalyst for Transformation
Lima’s selection as the host city for these events comes at a pivotal moment for the country’s air connectivity. The recent inauguration of the new passenger terminal at Jorge Chávez International Airport marks a turning point in Peru’s airport infrastructure.
With an initial capacity of 30 million passengers per year—and projections to reach 40 million by 2030—the terminal triples the size of its predecessor. Currently, the airport connects over 60 destinations and is served by 22 airlines, solidifying its position as one of Latin America’s leading hubs.
The expansion includes:
- The operation of two simultaneous runways.
- A new control tower.
- A cargo center to enhance air logistics.
These improvements aim to elevate the passenger experience and strengthen the airport’s operational capacity, aligning with the strategic topics to be discussed at ALTA’s forums.
