JetSMART Lands in the Caribbean: Launches Flights to Punta Cana from Colombia

JetSMART has taken a key step in its international expansion strategy. Starting December 5, 2025, the airline will launch flights from Medellín and Cali to Punta Cana, marking its official entry into the Caribbean market.

This announcement comes just over a year after JetSMART began domestic operations in Colombia, where it has already established itself as a significant player in the national aviation sector.

Key Details of the New Routes

The Colombia-Dominican Republic routes will operate with six weekly flights, distributed between the two cities. Promotional fares start from COP$764,000 for one-way trips from Cali and COP$691,000 from Medellín, including taxes and fees. The promotion applies to flights between December 5, 2025, and March 26, 2026, and will be available for purchase from August 5 to 11, 2025.

These routes will enable connections via Medellín and Cali from other Colombian cities such as Bogotá, Cartagena, and Santa Marta, as well as Santiago de Chile, strengthening the country’s international connectivity.

JetSMART Celebrates 9 Years: Ultra-Low-Cost Airline Transforming Aviation in South America

JetSMART’s Momentum in Colombia

Estuardo Ortiz, CEO and founder of JetSMART, emphasized the airline’s goal to bring air travel to every corner of South America, highlighting its performance in Colombia as evidence of this vision:

“In just one year, we’ve opened two operational bases, brought in nine aircraft, launched 17 routes and 10 destinations, serving over 4.4 million passengers. Of these, 17% were first-time flyers. Additionally, we’ve driven fare reductions of 15% to 25% on the routes we operate.”

Medellín: A New Strategic Hub

Medellín is emerging as a key hub in JetSMART’s network, where the airline now holds second place in market share with 23% of available seats. In 2025, passenger numbers are projected to grow by 70%, rising from 2.2 million to 3.8 million. Currently, JetSMART operates with four aircraft based in the city and will add two more by year-end.

By the end of 2025, the company plans to have 12 aircraft in Colombia, evenly distributed between Bogotá and Medellín, with a total projection of seven million passengers—a 71% increase compared to 2024.

Alliances, Modern Fleet, and International Recognition

JetSMART has been recognized for the third time as the Best Low-Cost Airline in the region by Skytrax. The airline operates over 81 routes across eight countries and maintains a modern fleet of Airbus A320neo and A321neo aircraft.

On June 10, it integrated its frequent flyer program with American Airlines, allowing passengers to earn and redeem AAdvantage miles on both networks. This alliance significantly expands travel options for users.

Backed by investments from groups like Indigo Partners and American Airlines, JetSMART is delivering on its promise: democratizing access to the skies with competitive fares, efficient technology, and an expanding network. The new routes to Punta Cana open doors to the Caribbean and reinforce Colombia’s role as a hub for aviation growth in the region.
