Madrid-Barajas Airport Records Best Month in History in July: 6.17 Million Passengers

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport closed July 2025 with an unprecedented milestone: 6,170,130 passengers, the highest figure for a single month since its inauguration. This represents a 0.6% increase compared to July 2024, solidifying its leadership in Spanish air traffic.

Of this total, 6,161,993 passengers were on commercial flights. Among them, 4,627,887 traveled on international routes, reflecting a 2.8% growth, while 1,534,106 flew domestically, a figure that showed a 5.6% decline.

Air Operations: Slight Increase in International Flights

During the seventh month of the year, Madrid-Barajas handled 37,910 flights, a 0.4% increase compared to the same period the previous year. Within commercial operations (37,850 flights), international flights totaled 26,696, up 2.8%, while domestic flights decreased to 11,154, a 5.1% drop.

Air Cargo: Absolute Record for July

Cargo activity also reached historic levels. With 69,923 tons transported, the airport recorded an 8.9% increase compared to July 2024. This volume represents 61% of all air cargo moved in Spain during the month, reinforcing Madrid-Barajas’ strategic role as a logistics hub.

Annual Balance: Sustained Growth

From January to July 2025, the airport welcomed 38,846,268 passengers, marking a 2.6% growth compared to the same period the previous year.

The number of operations in these seven months reached 246,827 aircraft movements, a 2% increase over 2024. In cargo, 464,646 tons were handled, also reflecting an 8.9% rise.

This performance confirms Madrid-Barajas as one of Europe’s leading hubs for air traffic and logistics, with a combination of passenger and cargo records that strengthen its strategic importance for Spain’s international connectivity.
