Finnish airline Finnair confirmed on Wednesday that it is analyzing the acquisition of a new fleet of single-aisle aircraft, with a possible order of up to 30 Airbus planes.
A Strategic Decision Amid Renewal Process
The company’s CEO, Turkka Kuusisto, indicated that while an immediate need would be to incorporate 15 units, internal analysis is considering broader scenarios that could increase the order to 25 or even 30 aircraft.
“The exact number is still on the table,” Kuusisto told the media, emphasizing that the final decision will be made by the end of this year.

A Fleet of 80 Aircraft with Urgent Need to Replace Older Models
The airline currently operates a total of 80 aircraft. Among these, 15 are older models (Airbus A319-100 and Airbus A320-200) that need to be replaced in the short term, which is the top priority in the renewal plan.
“That is the most urgent need,” acknowledged the executive, without yet revealing which specific Airbus model will be chosen for this replacement.
Expectations in the Aviation Market
Finnair’s evaluation takes place in a context where fleet modernization and fuel efficiency are key factors in the industry. Although the company has not yet detailed which version of the Airbus A320 family might fit into its plans, the announcement has generated expectations among analysts and competitors.
The decision Finnair makes by the end of the year will mark a significant step in its medium-term strategy, particularly in strengthening its competitiveness in the European segment.
