IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has announced a new order for 30 additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft. With this move, the company increases its total order for the model to 60 units, marking a decisive step in its strategy to expand into long-haul routes.
A Key Step in IndiGo’s Global Ambition
This announcement represents a milestone in IndiGo’s transformation as it seeks to position itself as a top-tier international operator. According to Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, this decision reflects confidence in the potential of Indian aviation and the strong relationship with Airbus.
“Today is a special day for IndiGo as we reinforce our commitment to expanding our international footprint and offering unprecedented connectivity to our customers,” said Elbers. “The conversion of this Memorandum of Understanding into a firm order is a demonstration of our confidence in the future of Indian aviation and in our strategic partnership with Airbus. These aircraft will play a fundamental role in connecting India with more destinations worldwide and in offering new international travel opportunities.”
The CEO also highlighted that this step aligns with India’s vision of becoming a global aviation hub and with the airline’s goal of establishing itself as a leading global player before 2030.

Airbus and the Strategic Partnership with India
For his part, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales at Airbus, emphasized the importance of the agreement:
“The A350’s fuel efficiency, range, and comfort are a perfect fit for IndiGo’s growth plans and its ambitions in the long-haul segment. This milestone reinforces our strong relationship with one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines, and we look forward to supporting its expansion into new intercontinental markets.”
