Southwest Airlines Announces Arrival in Anchorage, Alaska, in 2026

Southwest Airlines confirmed this Thursday that it will add Anchorage, Alaska, to its route network in the first half of 2026. The airline will put tickets on sale in its upcoming schedule extension, expected later this month, solidifying one of the most ambitious steps in its growth strategy.

Andrew Watterson, the airline’s Chief Operating Officer, highlighted that the inclusion of Anchorage represents a significant advancement: “We are adding destinations that once seemed inconceivable for Southwest in order to create a network that offers more experiences and possibilities than ever before.”

With the opening of this market, Southwest will reach 122 airports on its operational map, making Anchorage the fifth destination announced for 2025 and adding Alaska as the 43rd state in its domestic network. The company is already the largest carrier of domestic passengers in the United States.
