Dubai Airshow: Air Senegal Commits to Purchasing Nine Boeing 737 MAX Jets

Air Senegal has announced its commitment to acquire nine Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, marking the largest fleet order in its history and the first with the American manufacturer since 2004. This agreement represents a key milestone in the airline’s growth strategy, which aims to strengthen its presence both in Africa and in international markets.

Fleet Modernization and New Routes from Dakar

With the addition of the 737-8 model to its narrow-body fleet, Air Senegal plans to expand its network in Europe and open new routes to the Middle East and the Americas. Furthermore, the aircraft’s versatility will enable connections to secondary European cities, avoiding layovers at major hubs and offering greater comfort to passengers.

The company’s CEO, Tidiane Ndiaye, highlighted the importance of this acquisition: “This order is part of Air Senegal’s strategy to strengthen and modernize its fleet, support the expansion of its regional and intercontinental network, and consolidate Dakar as a leading air hub in West Africa.”

Operational Efficiency and Sustainability

The Boeing 737-8 can carry up to 178 passengers in a two-class configuration and has a range of 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km). Its advanced design allows for a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, in addition to generating a noise footprint 50% smaller compared to the aircraft it replaces.

Brad McMullen, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership: “We look forward to welcoming Air Senegal to the 737 MAX family as they leverage the advanced technology, reliability, and versatility of the 737-8 to support their growth ambitions. We are committed to the sustainable development of air transport in the region and will be partners in enhancing their fleet and passenger experience.”

Responding to Growing Air Travel Demand in Africa

The 737-8 is positioned as an ideal solution to meet the increasing demand for air travel in Africa, driven by economic development and a growing young population. This investment positions Air Senegal as a key player in the future of African aviation, with a more efficient fleet ready to face new operational challenges.
