The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has asked Venezuelan authorities to reconsider the measure of revoking the operating permits of several international airlines (Iberia, TAP Portugal, Avianca, Latam Airlines Colombia, Turkish Airlines, and Gol) that provided service in the country. These companies had temporarily suspended their flights to and from Venezuela following the issuance of air safety alerts by the governments of the United States and Spain.
Priority: The Safety of Passengers and Crews
The affected airlines have emphasized that the protection of travelers and their equipment is the main reason behind the suspension of operations in areas considered high-risk. The decision aims to avoid any unnecessary exposure to situations that could compromise safety.
Commitment to the Venezuelan Market
Despite the suspension, the companies have reiterated their willingness to restore services safely and efficiently as soon as conditions allow. The focus is on assisting the passengers directly impacted by this situation, which is beyond the airlines’ control.
Willingness for Dialogue and Cooperation
IATA and its members have expressed their willingness to collaborate with the competent authorities to find solutions that guarantee air safety and preserve Venezuela’s connectivity with the rest of the world. The association insists that keeping international routes open is essential for the country’s integration into the global air transport system.
Call for Clarity in Official Recommendations
Finally, IATA has urged the Venezuelan government to provide timely clarifications regarding the recommendations and conditions that prompted the temporary suspension of services. Transparency in these guidelines is key for airlines to be able to plan a potential return and ensure safe operations.
